I will never forget the phone call.. My childhood best friend had just had her first baby. It was Easter Sunday. She had to have an emergency c-section. I was told something was wrong with the baby. Terrified for her and what she would be going through I rushed over. They had immediately taken Colton to another hospital, it would be days before she could even hold him. She was told by the doctors as soon as he was born, that he was going to die. Imagine that. Your first child, you've been waiting so long to meet, to hold, to love. I didn't know what to do, or how I could help her. There was no words that were comforting. I had never felt so helpless. After some time in the hospital, Colton was sent home with Hospice and my best friend was told to love him until the time comes to let go. To this day it still amazes me how powerful love is. Colton is now almost 15 years old. Thou her struggles have been monumental, the love she has for Colton is infinite.
Colton will always be severely handicap. He will never be able to run and play like the other boys, but his life was not intended to be meaningless. His life has now changed so many others. After seeing first hand the effects of chromosome and genetic abnormalities, the devastation that occurs not only with-in the families, and how the children are affected. The hospital visits, the uncertainties, the tears, the lack of accurate information and networking. The financial hardships, the un-planned expenses. We are dedicated to helping families ease the burdens associated with these disorders, and helping the children affected by these abnormalities live a better quality of life.
Thank you for your understanding, compassion, and kindness
